I've googled around for this issue and the only site I found where someone had an identical problem to me was this: ![]() You say Mixcraft can't be doing it and I thought I might get such a response, but I'm not convinced as this started happening just a few minutes after I installed it. I can play mp3s and work in Mixcraft just fine, it's only the Windows system sounds that seem to be broken. I can play the Windows start up and shut down tune from that preview panel, but at the actual startup and shutdown, the tunes don't play. That works for me, I can play them there and they sound normal, but for some reason when these "program events" happen in practice, those sounds don't play any more. If you have Windows XP, you can go into Control panel > Sounds and Audio devices > Sounds panel, and there is a list of "program events" that trigger sounds, and you can preview those sounds there.
